The appliance is 7.5" H x 2" D x 3" W and the lanterns somewhat larger.  It emits an odor that repels mosquitoes, sand flies and black flies within a 15 foot diameter.  It is hardly noticeable to humans. The lantern casts a pleasant glow from the butane flame, while the Patio Lantern uses 4 AA batteries to power 4 LEDS. You get light and biting insect protection.

The active ingredient in the pad is allethrin. It belongs to a class of chemicals called pyrethroids, which are synthetic versions of pyrethrin, a naturally occurring insecticide found in certain types of chrysanthemum known as pyrethrum flowers. Mosquitoes are repelled by it.  When heated by the butane the allethrin is released.

To operate either the device or the lantern, you load butane and a pad, slide the switch to on, then click the start button a few times to light the butane.  It is working when you see a light at the top of the device.  You slide it back to turn it off.

Lay it on any horizontal surface near your chairs or on the table.  Each pad lasts 4 hours and should be replaced when the color of the pad turns from pale blue to white, about 4 hours.  Each can of butane will provide heat to 3 pads. If the mosquitoes are thick or you want more protection, add one or more traps as shown in our recommendations.
