Primary Benefit: This trap uses lights and octenol to attract mosquitoes. It is constructed like the MT350 but does not use CO2. It too has been revised for this season. It is a good choice for small spaces. It can be used indoors, but not with Octenol or Lactic Acid.  We recommend that you also use one of the repellents, particularly the Cognito.

How it works: It uses scent lures (Ocetnol and sometimes Lurex3 if outdoors), UV and blinking LED lights to attract mosquitoes. When they enter the machine, they are vacuumed into a funnel and solid catch tray (clear part of the unit at the bottom). Octenol or Lurex3 (for Asian Tiger Mosquitoes) recommended but optional.

The 440 uses lights and scent to attract mosquitoes. It has a UV bulb and blinking LEDs which together with the optional Octenol attract from a range of about 30 feet. Mosquitoes fly into the trap seeking a meal and are pulled by a fan into a funnel and solid plastic catch tray from which they cannot escape.

This trap will work well for light mosquito activity and small spaces. Use it with one or more repellents.  If you have a lot of mosquitoes or a large space, you will need more than one or a trap that releases CO2.

ATTRACTANTS   Octenol and lactic acid (Optional but much more effective) UV light, LEDs, movement (by light), color, and shape. 

OPERATION  The machine is on as long as it is plugged in. It has a low voltage transformer and 30 feet of cord that plugs into a regular 110v plug.

We recommend that you turn it off in heavy rain.

PLACEMENT  This is one of the most important considerations.  It should be between you and the source of the mosquitoes in a shady area with the light side in the direction of the mosquito source.  Preferably, it is as close to the source as possible and up-wind of the mosquitoes.  You are trying to attract the mosquitoes to it before they perceive you.  Remember that the CO2 you exhale can be sensed around 100 feet from you, and the more people, the more CO2. You should try to place the trap before the mosquito can sense you.  If you have more than one source of mosquitoes or a long property line bordering on an area that harbors mosquitoes, you may need 2 or more.   If you have a lot of mosquitoes, you should get a trap that emits CO2.

Once you place them, monitor the catch.  Remember that mosquitoes are more prevalent right after a rain, and then decrease in numbers until the next rain, when another hatch of the same or different species may occur.  If you are not catching many, move the machine to another location and increase the operation time.  The best gauge is your perception of the number of bites you get after placing the machine.  It will not kill every mosquito, but it should make your outdoor life much more tolerable and continue to reduce the population over time. 

We also recommend that you add one of the repellent packages, either Cognito or Thermacell for a complete package.  The traps kill the mosquitoes and the repellents keep any that remain away from you. If you have a large area, add more traps.
